iBIM.LK was founded on 10th January 2012 as a network of researchers centred at University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. This was an initiative taken by me at the Department of Building Economics in order to bring in rapidly developing knowledge on Building Information Modelling (BIM) around the world, for strengthening the academic potency of the department. The site was first known as BIMLab Network (BIMlab.NET) and was the first information source for BIM in Sri Lanka, and it continues to be the only source as of today (of course with a new name).
The research conducted was primarily focused on how the Sri Lankan construction industry can effectively obtain the benefits of developments in BIM. Thus, we presumed the duty of disseminating the BIM knowledge to participants in Sri Lankan construction industry, in addition to our primary goal of educating the students on BIM developments. However, our scope covers the wider perspective of contributing to the universal knowledge on project delivery with BIM.
Observing the growing interests in the Sri Lankan construction industry and its stakeholders, a decision was taken to expand the service of BIMLab.NET for Sri Lankan BIM community to join with us. To facilitate this and to reflect our intentions, on July 18, 2017, the site was renamed to iBIM.LK.
I trust that you’ll find information herein interesting and useful. Let’s work together to build a smarter construction industry.
